Who We Are

Protecting retiree benefits and fostering community since 1984

Our Mission

About REAVC

The Retired Employees Association of Ventura County (REAVC), formerly known as the Ventura County Retired Employees' Association (VCREA), was founded in 1984 as a social and advocacy organization for County of Ventura retirees.

REAVC is the authorized representative for all County of Ventura retirees before the Board of Supervisors, Board of Retirement, and other forums, including the courts.

The mission of REAVC is to protect the benefits of retirees, and, where possible, to gain enhancements to those benefits. REAVC also seeks legislation beneficial to retirees by working with the California Retired County Employees Association (CRCEA), the umbrella group for the retiree associations of the twenty counties whose retirement systems operate under the provisions of the County Employees Retirement Act of 1937.

What We Do

Membership Luncheons

Sponsor membership luncheons throughout the year featuring guest speakers discussing retiree issues and concerns, a short business meeting, raffle prizes, and an opportunity for members to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

Special Meetings

Hold special meetings to inform and engage the membership when issues arise that are of interest to the Association.

Bi-Monthly Newsletter

Publish a bi-monthly newsletter designed to keep members informed of retiree news and events, and to promote social contact among retirees. The newsletters contain current information about retirement benefits, legislation affecting REAVC retirees, services, and social activities.

Website & Information

Maintain a website (www.reavc.org) designed to provide information pertaining to REAVC activities, including past newsletters, Board meeting minutes, and upcoming events.

Scholarship Program

Conduct an annual scholarship program for the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of REAVC members, providing up to $1,500 to support their educational goals.

Legislative Advocacy

Work with CRCEA to monitor and influence state and federal legislative measures that may affect our member associations, and file amicus briefs with courts on behalf of retirees.

Leadership

2024 Board of Directors

REAVC is governed by a Board of Directors who serve two-year terms, dedicated to protecting and enhancing the benefits of Ventura County retirees.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is REAVC?

REAVC was founded in 1984 as an advocacy and social group for retired employees of the County of Ventura, special districts under the direction of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, and special districts participating in the Ventura County Employees Retirement Association.

What is the difference between REAVC and VCERA?

The Ventura County Employees' Retirement Association (VCERA) is the county retirement office, made up of the Board of Retirement and staff. They process retirement applications, issue monthly retirement checks, and manage the retirement fund. REAVC is an independent advocacy organization that represents retirees' interests.

Is REAVC a union?

No, not in the same way that a County employee organization is. We cannot, by State law, collectively bargain (negotiate) with the County for our benefits, as an employee organization can. We are the recognized representative for retirees before the Board of Supervisors and the Board of Retirement. We regularly meet with County officials regarding retiree benefits and attempt to persuade them to take actions that benefit our membership.

Does REAVC deal with pension check issues?

REAVC advocates for pension benefits in a general way and works on policy issues. However, REAVC does not process retirement checks or maintain individual retiree information. If your check is missing, incorrectly calculated, or you are changing deductions, beneficiaries, or banks for automatic deposit, you need to contact VCERA at (805) 339-4250.

Does REAVC deal with medical insurance issues?

Neither REAVC nor VCERA administer the various medical plans offered to County of Ventura retirees. The plans are administered by employees in the Human Resources Department. If you have questions about your medical insurance coverage, or are having problems related to your health care plan, please contact the Retiree Health Benefits Program Coordinator at (805) 662-6791.

How do I join REAVC?

You can obtain information about becoming a member by visiting our Membership Page. Membership applications can also be requested by calling us at (805) 644-7814, or by calling the Ventura County Employees' Retirement Association Office at (805) 339-4250.
